Track your immigrant petition with the priority date

Overview

Docketwise tracks the priority date of an immigrant petition for you and we update the cutoff dates from the Visa Bulletin just before the beginning of each month.

Once you have entered the Priority Date and Preference Category, this feature will provide you with up-to-date information about priority date status (status for filing and status for final action).

Setting Priority Date Tracking

Priority Date Tracking may be set when creating a matter or by editing a Matter that is already made.

When Creating a New Matter

To set Priority Date Tracking when creating a new Matter, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Create New β–Ό button from your Docketwise Dashboard

  2. Select the the Priority Date and Preference Category

  3. Click the Create Matter β†’ button

Updating an Existing Matter

In order to set a Priority Date Tracking after the Matter it is already created, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Matter for which you would like to set a Matter Type

  2. Click on the Update Matter Details link

  3. Select the the Priority Date and Preference Category

  4. Click the Update Matter β†’ button


Priority Date Status Notifications

Once you have entered the Priority Date and Preference Category, this feature will inform you whether or not the status for filing is current. You will also receive email and in-app notifications of priority date status changes.

Notifications settings/preferences for this feature may be configured under your firm's Notification Settings:

In-app Notifications

As mentioned above, you will receive an in-app notification on any changes that took place for your matters (for each Status for Filing updates and Status for Final Action updates).

Email Notifications

Additionally, Docketwise will send you monthly email digests on any changes that took place for your matters (for each Status for Filing updates and Status for Final Action updates). When this happens, you will receive an in-app notification informing you of the email's delivery.

Below, you can find the information included in these emails:

  • Status for Filing updates: This email will contain a list of matters that became "Current" for filing and a list of matters that retrogressed to "Not current" for filing.

  • Status for Final Action updates: This email will contain a list of matters that that became "Current" for final action and a list of matters that retrogressed to "Not current" for final action.


Viewing Priority Date Tracking

Once Priority Date and Preference Category are entered, you are able to start tracking the Priority Date's status (status for filing and status for final action).

From within the Case Tracking tab of the Matter Overview Page or the Contact Overview Page for the Matter's Primary Contact, you can see the real time status of the Priority Date Tracking (status for filing and status for final action).

Reporting with Priority Date Tracking

You can also track the priority date status (status for filing and status for final action) in reports as well.

In order to do this, you will need to select a matter report type (we recommend using matter custom reports for more advanced filtering).
